For this weeks blog post, I spent the past weekend set dressing the destroyed school scene. We received a lot of feedback regarding the readability of this scene, as it was not portrayed as grim enough and wasn't quite interpreted how we wanted. Despite this, we needed a quick fix that didn't require the hassle of modeling and texturing new assets. I took it upon myself to create alpha cards of debris. I created a mattepainting of the school where I handpainted the 3D model and I photobashed textures of destroyed buildings on top. Additionally i made 5 variations of debris like broken walls, bricks, and slabs. I created the mattepainted sets while Bianca populated the scene with grass, lighting, and a skydome.

I was pleasantly surprised with the results, I believe they still fit the style and the destruction reads much better in this case. Especially with the dramatic lighting, you can really feel this moment for the character and that's what we've been pushing for. Now that we've finished all the set dressing--its time to animate. And with only a few weeks left, its imperative that we stick to a schedule. We approximated 6+ shots per week from each person in order to reach our goal.
